WHat is electrology?

Electrolysis is a permanent form of hair removal that has been around for more than 100 years. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. The process of electrolysis involves inserting a fine probe (about the size of the hair) into the opening of the hair follicle and using a small amount of electrical current to destroy the cells that cause hair growth. Electrolysis can remove any unwanted hair regardless of hair texture, color of hair, or color of skin.

Everyone will have an individual treatment plan because of multiple factors including the amount of hair in the treated area, hair removal methods used before, hair growth cycles, sensitivity levels of the client, and hormone function. This usually results in requiring multiple sessions to fully clear the treatment area. There are three different modalities that can be used and will be assessed when developing the treatment plan.

becoming an electrologist

In order to practice electrolysis in Wisconsin a license is required. To obtain the license you must complete a 450-hour training program in a licensed school of cosmetology or electrology. The training includes theoretical and practical instruction. Following training a written and practical exam must be completed with a passing score.
